Facility: Wanda planted her first iris 50 years ago when her Great-Grandmother came to live with her family. In the mid 1960s, her Grandmother came to live with them and brought more of her favorite iris. She still grows some of them. The mixed iris & perennial gardens at this house have been planted over the past 18 years. Trading with friends on the Internet has vastly increased the collection over the past 10 years. The iris are planted with an eye to color contrasts as well as height and bloom quality. She extends the iris season with early Dwarfs, Intermediates and late Tall Beardeds. The gardens are well kept and have been open to the public for several years. She loves to have visitors stop and enjoy the beautiful iris colors. Her favorites are the 1930s to 1950s - -pre-ruffles. Big & elegant beauties. They bring memories of my Great Grandma & Grandma's gardens.

The garden is on a 1/3 acre city lot. The flower beds are from 8 to 20 foot deep and each one is 30-60 foot long. There is also a large collection of 350 daylilies, 200 lilies plus over 100 different perennials in the mixed beds. All the iris clumps have easy to read garden markers with name, breeder & year introduced. The center of the yard is grassy with plenty of shade. Easy to walk and plenty of places to rest. There is room for parking buses on the street.

Wanda has given Iris presentations at the Des Moines Botanical Center, Siouxland Garden Conference , various Garden Clubs and Master Gardener Events. In 2010 she taught a 3 class course on growing Iris, Daylilies & Lilies for the local community college. She also has several public "Open Gardens" planned.

Editor's note: Wanda has one of the loveliest, healthiest displays of iris that I have ever seen on the 'net. The soil and conditions must really agree with the iris at this location.
