From the Cornell Extension Bulletin 112, 1925: "Color effect a bronzed lilac and purple blend. S. livid purple bronzing aniline yellow. F. raison purple bronzed, fading to light phlox purple.

The beard is dense and conspicuous, shading from old gold to orange at the base. Colors in this variety seem to be intensified or blended as seasons or physical conditions change. The flower is open in form, with long, narrow segments which are very subtley blended. The flowering stalks are tall, sometimes sprawling, but widely branched and well set, with clawlike blooms. Distinct. Rating 78."
