Millet in his garden just outside the gates of Paris, he told me that he considered this new variety the finest Iris he has ever grown, finer even than Souv. de Madame Gaudichau. He had just buried his wife, and he told me that he had named this, his finest Iris, in her honor, giving it her maiden name. 'Enormous flowers carried on firm three foot stems. S. of a pleasing shade of violet-purple lighted with a lighter tone. F. deep rich Bishop's violet. the whole flower is of a splendid velvety appearance' - Millet's description." |
