The Black Douglas
J. Sass, 1934

TB 36" M B7D pbf, From Robert Wayman catalog 1940: "This is unquestionably the best of the new dark tones or so-called blacks. It is a very richly and deeply colored iris of perfect form, heavy substance, huge size and a prolific bloomer. The general effect is an intense deep blackish pansy violet and it seems to be cut out of velvet. .50 each"
HM 1936

Comments: "This iris was growing at Mary Hess' garden in Ca. While the color is fairly common, it has a nice rounded shape. " - Laetitia, NJ
