"The Society was created to help preserve our iris heritage by locating at risk irises and bringing them together with irisarians who want to grow and perpetuate them. Of equal importance is the establishment of an extensive collection of reference material relating to early iris history. HIPS is the common thread that binds together irisarians everywhere."

The Historic Iris Preservation Society is group of folks from around the world who love and enjoy old irises and are striving to preserve them. We urge anyone interested in historical irises to consider a membership. Join HIPS today and you'll recieve a copy of ROOTS, the society's biannual journal, as well as full access to the 'members only' website - and so much more!

Have you been searching for that old variety of iris that grew in your grandmother's garden? Was the name passed down but not the plant? We can help! The HIPS Commercial Source Chairman maintains a large file of catalogs and commercial listings and is happy to help you locate a source for your heirloom iris. The HIPS database contains noncommercial sources for more than 4000 irises registered 30 or more years ago. We are here to put you in touch with individuals who can provide you with irises which are no longer commercially available. Members also gain priority access to annual sales, auctions and garden rescues sponsored by HIPS.

The HIPS Communication Center is a great place for you to interact with other society members. It offers you a place to discuss irises and society related issues, offer trades, or post your 'most wanted' list. Our ID Assistance Program experts are available to help you identify your 'noids' (no I.D.), so you can finally place a name to that favorite iris from your grandmother's garden. The Reading Room contains articles and iris identification guidelines written by HIPS experts, archived for you to browse. The HIPS Publication Sales Office offers reprints and xerox copies of historical iris reference material containing useful descriptions of popular irises of yesteryear.

Join us, and let your enjoyment of historic irises grow along with HIPS.
